ADHD and Autism Family Counselling in Victoria BC

When family members have different communication styles, sensory needs, and ways of managing everyday demands, it can be difficult to know how to support one another. Family counselling offers space to understand those differences, work through challenges, and strengthen your relationships.

At The Neurodiversity Family Centre, we offer neurodiversity-affirming family counselling in Victoria, BC, and online. We support families navigating ADHD, autism, and other forms of neurodivergence, whether one or several family members are neurodivergent. A formal diagnosis is not required.

Support for Your Whole Family

Each person’s experiences affect family life. We take a family systems approach, exploring how relationships, routines, environments, and expectations influence everyone’s well-being.

Family counselling can help with:

  • Recurring conflict and misunderstandings

  • Communication between parents, children, teens, and adult family members

  • Differences in sensory needs, emotional regulation, and processing time

  • School stress and its impact at home

  • Household responsibilities, routines, and executive functioning

  • Sibling relationships and different support needs

  • Boundaries, independence, and changing family roles

  • Adjusting to a diagnosis or new understanding of neurodivergence

A Neurodiversity Affirming Approach

Our practitioners respect different ways of thinking, learning, communicating, and experiencing the world. We work collaboratively to understand each family member’s perspective, including needs that may be difficult to express.

Together, we explore the patterns behind challenging moments and identify changes that could help. This may involve adapting the environment, making expectations clearer, allowing more recovery time, or finding more accessible ways to communicate.

Every family member deserves to be heard, while mutual respect, boundaries, and accountability remain part of the work.

Practical Strategies for Everyday Connection

Your family’s goals guide counselling. You may want calmer conversations, more manageable routines, better ways to resolve disagreements, or support navigating a transition.

Sessions focus on developing approaches you can try together, then adjusting them based on your experiences. We consider each person’s age, communication preferences, strengths, and capacity when planning participation.

We welcome and affirm 2SLGBTQIA+ families and recognize the many forms families take.
