Dungeons & Dragons Emotional Regulation Group

Dragons can take many forms in everyday life, including overwhelming emotions, anxiety, conflict, academic or workplace stress, relationship challenges, and uncertainty about the future. Learning how to face these challenges requires support, practice, and effective coping skills.

This group combines emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness skills with the collaborative storytelling and problem-solving of Dungeons & Dragons. Through roleplay, teamwork, and shared adventures, participants have opportunities to practice managing emotions, coping with stress, communicating effectively, and making thoughtful decisions in a safe and engaging environment.

Although the group takes place within a fantasy setting, the skills learned are directly connected to real-world experiences. Participants develop greater emotional awareness, resilience, confidence, and social connection while learning how to face life's challenges alongside others.

Groups are being considered for the following age ranges:

  • Ages 12–15

  • Ages 15–18

  • Ages 18+

Note: As the group is led by an RCC, sessions may be eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits. Please check with your insurance provider to determine whether group therapy services are covered under your plan. Autism Funding can also be used to pay for this group experience.

Held: A group for Mother's of Neurodivergent Youth

Parenting a neurodivergent child or teen can be beautiful, rewarding, exhausting, and at times incredibly isolating. Many mothers find themselves carrying the emotional labour of advocating, supporting, researching, coordinating, and caring for everyone around them, often while struggling to care for themselves.

This group is designed for mothers of neurodivergent children and teens. Many participants may identify as neurodivergent themselves, though this is absolutely not a requirement.

Together, we will explore practical skills and strategies to better support our neurodivergent youth while also learning how to support our own nervous systems. Topics may include regulation, hormones, burnout prevention, self-care, boundaries, emotional wellbeing, neurodiversity-affirming parenting approaches, and creating sustainable supports for ourselves and our families.

Most importantly, this group offers an opportunity to connect with other mothers who truly “get it.” Through shared experiences, discussion, learning, and reflection, participants can build meaningful connections, reduce feelings of isolation, and perhaps even make some new friends along the way.

The group will be facilitated by Mary Klovance, RCC, Registered Clinical Counsellor, educator, ADHD specialist, and mother of a neurodivergent child.

Program Format:

  • Initial commitment: 2 months with weekly meetings

  • Option to continue on a month-to-month basis following the completion of the first two months

  • First session of each month will be held in person on a Sunday

  • Remaining sessions will be held virtually on a weekday evening
