ADHD & Autism Couple's Counselling
Specialized Neurodiversity-affirming therapy in Victoria, BC

Couple's Therapy
Different ways of communicating, processing emotions, and managing everyday responsibilities can affect how partners experience a relationship. When those differences are misunderstood, both people can feel unheard, frustrated, or disconnected.
At The Neurodiversity Family Centre, we offer neurodiversity-affirming couples counselling in Victoria, BC, and online throughout Canada. We support couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent, including ADHD, autistic, and mixed-neurotype relationships. You do not need a formal diagnosis to seek support.
Understand Each Other and Strengthen Your Connection
Couples counselling creates space to explore each partner’s experiences, needs, and hopes for the relationship. Together, we can help you recognize recurring patterns and develop approaches that work for both of you.
Sessions may focus on:
-
Communicating needs and expectations more clearly
-
Navigating differences in attention, memory, planning, and time management
-
Understanding sensory needs and different ways of processing emotions
-
Sharing household responsibilities and the mental load
-
Managing conflict, taking breaks, and reconnecting after disagreements
-
Exploring affection, intimacy, and boundaries
-
Navigating parenting differences and family demands
-
Making room for individual needs alongside shared goals
An Approach That Respects Both Partners
Neurodiversity-affirming couples therapy recognizes that partners may think, communicate, and experience the world differently. We explore these differences with curiosity while considering their impact on each person.
Your counsellor will help you distinguish between intentions, needs, and the effects of particular behaviours. Understanding neurodivergence can offer useful context while keeping mutual respect, accountability, and boundaries central to the work.
We welcome and affirm 2SLGBTQIA+ couples and recognize that identity, culture, family experiences, and relationship history also shape how partners connect.
Practical Strategies for Everyday Life
Together, we can explore changes that make daily life and communication more manageable. These might include written agreements, clearer requests, shared planning tools, sensory adjustments, or a plan for returning to difficult conversations after a break.
The goal is to develop strategies that feel realistic and respectful to both partners. Your feedback helps guide the process as you discover what works for your relationship.
