Challenges at school
I believe every young person’s brain works in its own unique and wonderful way. I take the time to really understand their world, celebrate their strengths, and support them in feeling confident and accepted just as they are. Uniqueness is what makes this world a wonderful place!
Experience:
For the past six years, I’ve worked in schools as both a counsellor and teacher, supporting youth with a wide range of strengths, needs, and learning styles. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside developmentally diverse young people and their families, learning from each unique perspective. Every interaction reminds me that there’s no one right way to learn, grow, or experience the world, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful to me! I specialize in Animal-Assisted Interventions supporting developmentally diverse youth and am currently working on becoming certified in AutPlay therapy.
Approach & Modalities:
I like to meet youth where they are, whether that means talking things through, getting creative, learning new skills, or finding practical tools that make life a little easier. I also offer animal-assisted interventions with my certified therapy dog (Maggie), who brings comfort, connection, and a calming presence to sessions. I also use CBT and Play therapy. I keep my approach flexible so there’s room for curiosity, laughter, and real conversations, while making sure every young person feels safe, heard, and in control of their own process.
Communication Style:
I communicate in a way that’s clear, supportive, and responsive to each young person. I often use humor, stories, metaphors, and visual or hands-on activities to make conversations engaging and easy to connect with.
Fun Facts & Interests:
I love completing puzzles, playing boardgames, searching for sea glass on the beach, hiking with Maggie, and collecting houseplants until my home resembles a luscious jungle! Specialized Trainings & Certifications:
