Anna recognizes neurodiversity as an important aspect of an individuals’ life, and recognizes that everyone holds their unique skill set and pieces of knowledge. She works from a strength-based client centered counselling model, which focuses on the support and advocacy of everyone that walks through the door, with considerations of how a neurodivergence may interact with that persons worldview.
Experience
Anna is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who holds a Master of Counselling degree from the City University of Seattle. Prior to this she gained a Bachelors Degree in Law. She has worked in the mental health field for over a decade in various roles, including crisis counselling and case work in mental health and substance use. She recognizes the need for a neurodiversity affirming, multicultural, and trauma informed lens throughout the work she does. She recognizes the gifts that come along with neurodiversity and how important it is for all ways of ‘being’ to be appreciated. She is passionate about supporting those from childhood onward on their mental health journey, and recognizes what a great privilege it is to walk beside clients on their path to wellness.
Aside from professional experience, Anna has lived experience with family members who are neurodivergent, with diagnosis such as Autism and ADH(D). She has seen some of the obstacles that neurodivergent folks face within the world, and is passionate about supporting and advocating for their individual needs. Neurodivergence along with co-occurring mental health concerns are frequently seen, and societal, familial, biological considerations are important to Anna when she considers a holistic approach to therapy.
Approach and Modalities Anna is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) trained practitioner. This is a trauma therapy modality that has multiple efficacy-based interventions for an array of presenting concerns. In addition to this, Anna has here Critical Incident Stress Management training, San’yas Cultural Safety Training and, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.
She also uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Oriented, Feminist-Multicultural, Sand-tray therapy, Play therapy, and Art therapy within her practice.
Communication Style
Anna appreciates the unique communication styles of those she walks alongside. She is a compassionate ear, allowing for comfortability in silence with understanding and unconditional positive regard. She aims to adapt communication as is needed, and always hopes to hold a warm and welcoming environment in the therapy room. Fun Facts
